In the February 15, 2012 issue of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Bulletin (Vol. 46, No. 8), CBP published two notices on its revocation of two rulings and treatment regarding the tariff classification of a sky ball catch set and frozen crème brulee.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has announced that the IPR Center and the World Customs Organization recently concluded Operation Global Hoax II, a 43-country operation aimed at stemming the flow of illicit counterfeit and pirated products being delivered to consumers via international mail or by express courier services. During the two-month operation that began in November 2011, customs officials seized more than 30,000 parcels and more than 150,000 counterfeit or pirated items, including toys, pharmaceuticals, electronic goods, clothing, DVDs, watches, mobile phones and handbags, as well as other illicit goods such as cannabis seeds, anabolic steroids and amphetamines. During the U.S. operation, 21,871 items were seized with a total manufacturer's suggested retail price of $7,309,648.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is seeking additional comments on extending an existing information collection concerning Declaration of Owner and Declaration of Consignee when Entry is made by an Agent (CBP Forms 3347 and 3347A), which it plans to submit to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for review and approval. CBP is proposing that this information collection be extended with no change to the burden hours or information being collected. CBP published the information collection for comment in December 2011, and is now allowing for additional comments, until March 22, 2011 (from February 3, 2012).
The Los Angeles Field Operations unit of U.S. Customs and Border Protection has issued a Public Bulletin stating that due to budgetary constraints, CBP can no longer guarantee that funding for construction, equipment and/or additional personnel will be available for new or expanded "extenal stakeholder" international passenger and cargo processing facilities, While each situation will be reviewed on an individual basis, LA CBP states that any plans for new or expanded facilities should be made with this budget constraint in mind.
