LA CBP Says it May Not Staff/Equip New or Expanded Facilities due to Budget

The Los Angeles Field Operations unit of U.S. Customs and Border Protection has issued a Public Bulletin stating that due to budgetary constraints, CBP can no longer guarantee that funding for construction, equipment and/or additional personnel will be available for new or expanded "extenal stakeholder" international passenger and cargo processing facilities, While each situation will be reviewed on an individual basis, LA CBP states that any plans for new or expanded facilities should be made with this budget constraint in mind.

(LA CBP states that as part of the Federal Government's ongoing efforts to reduce spending, CBP anticipates that there will be reductions over the next several years in the overall CBP budget, including funding for construction and equipment, such as radiation portal monitors (RPMs), data/voice communications infrastructure and hardware, etc. In addition, while staffing at the ports is a critical part of its mission, given the current budget environment, it is also unlikely that increased staffing will be approved in the coming fiscal years.)
