Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-N.J.) moves up to chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's Aviation Subcommittee for the 113th Congress. Airlines for America President Nicholas Calio said LoBiondo's earlier work on the subcommittee "has produced results on a wide range of transportation issues, including the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012."
The Obama Administration intends to begin negotiations for a new trade agreement on international trade in services, U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk told Congress Jan. 15. The negotiations will be in Geneva early this year with a group of 20 trading partners who represent nearly two-thirds of global trade in services, he said, and the objective will be promoting international trade in services and supporting increased U.S. service exports and jobs. In a letter to Congress (here), Kirk said a recent study by the Peterson Institute for International Economics said the U.S. is the world's largest services trader, but tradable services are still five times less likely to be exported than manufactured products.
Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y) will be the top Democrat on the House Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee, said the office of House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Sandy Levin (D-Mich.) Rangel will replace Jim McDermott (Wash.), who will move to the Health Subcommittee.
Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) will be chairman of the Trade Subcommittee in the 113th Congress, said a press release from House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-Mich.). Nunes will replace Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Texas), who will move to chairman of the Subcommittee on Health, as the Trade Subcommittee chairman. Rep. Charles Boustany (La.) will continue as chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight. Subcommittee membership will be determined once the remaining vacant Republican position of the full Committee has been filled, said the press release.
