The U.S. Attorney's Office for the district of Maryland has announced that Nadeem Akhtar, owner of Computer Communication USA (CC-USA), has pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit export violations and to defraud the U.S. in connection with a scheme to illegally export nuclear-related materials to Pakistan.

Acting U.S. Commerce Secretary Rebecca Blank stated that the July 2011 U.S. International Trade in Goods and Services report showed that U.S. exports in July increased 3.6 percent from June, to $178.0 billion. The value of exports in July, as well as the individual export values for goods and services, was the highest on record. Exports of capital goods ($42.1 billion) and exports to South and Central America were also the highest on record in July ($14.7 billion). U.S. imports of goods and services decreased 0.2 percent over this period to $222.8 billion, causing the U.S. trade deficit to decrease 13.1 percent since June, totaling $44.8 billion in July.

The Bureau of Industry and Security has issued a final rule, effective September 6, 2011 to update the Export Administration Regulations to reflect the fact that the Netherlands Antilles1 dissolved on October 10, 2010, Curaçao and Sint Maarten became semi-autonomous entities within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and to change "East Timor" to its proper name of "Timor-Leste" throughout the EAR.

ETRAC advices the Assistant Secretary for Export Administration on emerging technology and research activities, including those related to deemed exports.
on August 30, 2011, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced that the owner of a New Mexico gun shop, his wife, and their two sons were arrested on firearms smuggling and money laundering charges. Between April 2010 and July 2011, the defendants allegedly conspired to make false statements in connection with acquiring firearms and illegally exporting them to Mexico. The defendants sold an aggregate of 16 firearms and more than 7,000 rounds of ammunition with the understanding that they were intended to be illegally smuggled into Mexico. The defendants allegedly removed the ammunition from its original packaging and repackaged the ammunition in black canvas bags to conceal it from law enforcement.
