Clear Terms

Search Primer

Term list: Separate terms with spaces, not commas or semicolons.

Multi-word term: Place inside quotes to ensure an exact match (e.g. "China import").

Acronyms: Use all capital letters to ensure the search is not looking for that letter sequence instead.

Required term: If a term must be included in any resulting articles, prefix it with a plus sign (e.g., +CBP).

Excluded term: If a term should be excluded from any articles being found, prefix it with a minus sign (e.g., -ruling).

Singular form: Always use the singular form when doing multi-word terms (e.g. "russian export control" instead of "russian export controls").

Shortest word form: When you have different word forms in a quoted (multi-word) term, you want to only include the shortest version if it is the last part of the expression (e.g., "entity list" instead of "entity listing" or "entity listed").

BIS Sensor and Instrumentation Advisory Committee to Meet on Oct 25

The Bureau of Industry and Security’s Sensors and Instrumentation Technical Advisory Committee will hold a partially open meeting on October 25, 2011 in Washington D.C. SITAC advises the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Export Administration on technical questions that affect the level of export controls applicable to sensors and instrumentation equipment and technology. The open portion of the meeting will be accessible via teleconference.

OFAC Final Rule Amends Sudan and Iran Regs for Consular Funds, Human Remains, Tombstones

The Office of Foreign Assets Control has issued a final rule, effective October 12, 2011, that amends the Sudanese Sanctions Regulations and the Iranian Transactions Regulations to authorize the processing of funds transfers for the operating expenses or other official business of third-country diplomatic or consular missions in Sudan or Iran, respectively. OFAC also is amending the Sudanese Sanctions Regulations and the Iranian Transactions Regulations to authorize the transportation of human remains to or from Sudan and Iran, respectively, for burial, cremation, or interment, as well as the importation into the U.S. for non-commercial purposes of finished tombstones or grave markers of Sudanese or Iranian origin.

OFAC Finalizes Rule on Ag/Medical Exports to Iran & Sudan, Issues Food General Licenses

The Office of Foreign Assets Control has issued a final rule that adopts as final (but with new general licenses authorizing certain food exports), a November 2009 interim final rule that made technical changes to sections of the Sudanese Sanctions Regulations (SSR) and the Iranian Transactions Regulations (ITR) regarding licensing of agricultural commodity, medicine, and medical device exports to Iran and Sudan. The final rule is effective October 12, 2011.

ITA Says Renewable Energy Export Initiative Met Initial Goals

The International Trade Administration states that one year after its launch, the Obama Administration’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Export Initiative (RE4I) has met its target goals of simplifying the process of obtaining export financing, facilitating a significant increase in renewable energy and energy efficiency activities by both the U.S. Export-Import Bank and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, and improving export promotion services and market access for U.S. renewable energy and energy efficiency companies.
