The use of export controls and sanctions on Russia has surged since the country's invasion of Crimea in 2014, and especially its invasion of Ukraine in in February 2022. Similar export controls and sanctions have been imposed by U.S. allies, including the EU, U.K. and Japan. The State and Treasury Departments named the first group of 18 individuals to the Office of Foreign Assets Control's Specially Designated Nationals List under the new Magnitsky Act. The act designates entities associated with the persecution and death of Russian lawyer Sergei Magnitsky. The names include six people placed there because of their position in Magnitsky’s initial investigation and arrest; including four judges, two prison officials, Interior Ministry personnel and the heads of tax authority offices, a senior State Department official said in a press briefing April 12.

Boeing requested more than $100 million in financial assistance from the Export-Import Bank to support the export of the company’s 767 aircraft to Kazakhstan, the Bank said. The planes would be used by Air Astana JSC for long-haul passenger service between Kazakhstan and destinations in Russia, Europe and Asia. Comments on the proposed loan can be submitted to www.regulations.gov by May 10.

The International Trade Administration updated information ahead of its June 2013 trade mission to Russia for exporters of healthcare products, revising the application deadline from March 15 to March 29 due to the Easter holiday season.
