The U.S. said it was deeply troubled by what it described as lack of due process in China’s antidumping actions, and in particular the imposition last December of AD measures on imports of some $3 billion worth of U.S. automobiles, at a meeting of the World Trade Organization’s Meeting on Anti-Dumping Practices on April 23. The U.S. also said it was concerned on Mexican AD rate calculations, while Japan questioned 4 U.S. AD measures on Japanese products.

The Environmental Protection Agency denied a petition for the EPA to revoke all pesticide tolerances for 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) under section 408(d) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA), it said in a Federal Register notice to be published April 18. The petition was filed November 6, 2008, by the Natural Resources Defense Council. The NRDC had claimed that EPA's conclusion in the 2005 Reregistration Eligibility Decision (RED) for 2,4-D, which allowed 2,4-D to be reregistered and its tolerances retained, was based on a deficient risk. But the EPA said many of NRDC's claims fail to state a sufficient ground for revocation and instead merely critique the manner in which the risk assessment underlying the 2,4-D RED was done. Those claims that do allege relevant statutory grounds for revocation the EPA said it finds to be without merit.
The International Trade Administration issued the initiation and preliminary results of its antidumping duty changed circumstances review of non-malleable cast iron pipe fittings from China (A-570-875), in response to a request by Ford Motor Co. that the ITA revoke, in part, the AD order with respect to a particular brake fluid tube connector. The connector is a “joint block” for brake fluid tubes and is made of non-malleable cast iron to Society of Automotive Engineers (SEA) automotive standard J431. The ITA said the domestic industry has affirmatively expressed a lack of interest in the continuation of the order with respect to this product. Therefore, The ITA intends to revoke, in part, the AD order as it relates to imports of the connector described above from China.
The International Trade Administration issued the preliminary results of its administrative review of the antidumping duty order on certain orange juice from Brazil (A-351-840) for four companies1. These preliminary results are not in effect. The ITA may modify them in the final results of this review and change the estimated AD cash deposit rate for these companies.
