Clear Terms

Search Primer

Term list: Separate terms with spaces, not commas or semicolons.

Multi-word term: Place inside quotes to ensure an exact match (e.g. "China import").

Acronyms: Use all capital letters to ensure the search is not looking for that letter sequence instead.

Required term: If a term must be included in any resulting articles, prefix it with a plus sign (e.g., +CBP).

Excluded term: If a term should be excluded from any articles being found, prefix it with a minus sign (e.g., -ruling).

Singular form: Always use the singular form when doing multi-word terms (e.g. "russian export control" instead of "russian export controls").

Shortest word form: When you have different word forms in a quoted (multi-word) term, you want to only include the shortest version if it is the last part of the expression (e.g., "entity list" instead of "entity listing" or "entity listed").

WTO Elects 1st Chair of Committee on Fisheries Subsidies

The World Trade Organization's Committee on Fisheries Subsidies held its first meeting Dec. 9 and confirmed that Costa Rica's Ana Lizano will be its first chair, the WTO announced. The committee is charged with examining information submitted by WTO members on their "fisheries subsidies-related notifications" and overseeing the operation of the recently ratified Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies, the WTO said.

WTO Government Procurement Committee Agrees on Measure to Enhance Transparency

The World Trade Organization's Committee on Government Procurement adopted a decision to boost the "transparency and accessibility of its work" during its final meeting of the year last month, the WTO said. The committee agreed to "broaden the scope of materials that will in future be made available to members not participating in the Committee as GPA parties or observers as well as to the general public." The documents will either be "immediately unrestricted or automatically derestricted after a defined period." The new documents eligible for this treatment include meeting agendas and written summaries of informal sessions.
