The Consumer Product Safety Commission published notice of the following voluntary recall for Aug 11, 2011:
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has published for public comment a provisionally-accepted Settlement Agreement with Perfect Fitness LLC, containing a civil penalty of $425,000 to resolve allegations that it "knowingly" failed to inform CPSC immediately of a defect in its "Perfect Pullup" exercise equipment.
Two CPSC Commissioners have issued statements criticizing the August toy and child care article testing notice, which lists materials that are not expected to contain phthalates and do not need to be tested/certified, as being too brief. The two Commissioners had advocated a more detailed list. Both also said that a rule defining toy and child care articles should have been issued.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has published its provisional settlement agreement with CVS Pharmacy, Inc. in the Federal Register for comment. In the agreement, CPSC staff alleges that the company “knowingly” failed to immediately report that it had sold children’s hooded jackets with drawstrings which later became the subject of a voluntary recall.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on August 3, 2011 that Black & Decker Inc. of Towson, MD, has agreed to pay a civil penalty of $960,000 to resolve CPSC staff’s allegations that Black & Decker knowingly failed to report several safety defects and hazards with the Grasshog XP immediately to CPSC, as required by federal law, among other things.
The International Trade Administration has issued a notice announcing the availability of grant funds in calendar year 2011 for U.S. manufacturers of certain worsted wool fabrics, pursuant to the Miscellaneous Trade and Technical Corrections Act of 2004 (Public Law 108-429), as amended by P.L. 110-343.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a proposed rule, at the request of certain manufacturers and testing labs, to clarify and correct its durable infant or toddler product consumer registration form requirements. Comments are due by October 24, 2011.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission will host the biennial U.S.-China Product Safety Summit in Washington DC on October 13-14, 2011. The Summit will include public sessions. CPSC will be providing further details and registration information in coming weeks.
