The International Trade Administration has issued a notice soliciting applications from persons1 who weave certain worsted wool fabrics in the U.S. suitable for making men's and boys' suits, suit-type jackets, or trousers for an allocation of the 2012 tariff rate quotas on certain worsted wool fabric. Applications must be received or postmarked by 5 p.m. on October 21, 2011.
The Environmental Protection Agency has announced the availability of draft test guidelines for Series 810 - product performance test guidelines for public health uses of antimicrobial agents concerning air, textiles and water. These draft test guidelines address efficacy testing for antimicrobial agents intended to be used on hard, inanimate, environmental surfaces; in the air, and in water, and which bear label claims as disinfectants and/or sanitizers, such as (i) disinfectants and sanitizers for use on fabrics and textiles; (ii) air sanitizers; (iii) and disinfectants for use in water.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a proposed rule to establish a mandatory consumer product safety standard for play yards. The proposed standard is based on the voluntary standard, ASTM F 406-11 - Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Non-Full-Size Baby Cribs/Play Yards, with certain changes.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has completed its final studies and posted updated remediation guidelines to help certain homeowners remediate problem Chinese drywall. The studies followed 3,905 reports of corrosion and other problems from residents of 42 states with homes built largely in 2006-2007. Going forward, CSPC staff will continue to work with voluntary standards organizations to develop improved standards for drywall to prevent this type of problem from reemerging. In addition, ASTM International Inc. is moving to require that all drywall sheets are marked with the manufacturer’s name or a unique identification code, the manufacture date, and the source materials.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission is scheduled to vote by September 20, 2011 on a staff recommendation to accredit a private YKK Corporation laboratory as a firewalled third-party lab for testing lead in paint and total lead content of children's products.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has posted the briefing packet and draft advance notice of proposed rulemaking on table saws that the Commission will consider during its September 21, 2011 public meeting. The draft states that CPSC is considering whether a new performance safety standard is needed to address an unreasonable risk of injury associated with table saws. It would seek comments on any existing standard or a statement of intent to modify or develop a voluntary standard, to address the risks of injury from table saws.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a Federal Register notice on its recent vote to grant a petition requesting it initiate a rulemaking to restrict cadmium in children’s products, especially toy metal jewelry.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a teleconference of the Chronic Hazard Advisory Panel (CHAP) on phthalates and phthalate substitutes on September 20, 2011. The CHAP is studying the effects on children's health of all phthalates and phthalate alternatives as used in children's toys and child care articles. Its findings will be used to inform a future CPSC rulemaking on the topic, including whether to continue interim bans on certain phthalates, whether to prohibit other phthalates or phthalate combinations, etc.
