The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has introduced a new training video that it states will help make the highways safer for cargo tank drivers and motorists alike. The video provides cargo tank drivers with best practices and safety tips on how to avoid rollover crashes while transporting hazardous materials. Developed in partnership with the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) and the National Tank Truck Carriers, the “Cargo Tank Driver Rollover Prevention Video” uses driver interviews and on-road scenarios to highlight the factors that contribute to rollovers. The video will be distributed to cargo tank motor carriers nationwide, and is available online.
The U.S. China Economic and Security Review Commission has updated its list of hearings scheduled for the 2010 report cycle. As additional hearings are scheduled they will be announced in the Federal Register and posted to USCC's web site. The full agenda for each hearing will be posted to the web site one week prior to the hearing date.
The Federal Trade Commission issued an August 4, 2010 press release stating that it approved a settlement with Intel Corp. that resolves charges the company illegally stifled competition in the market for computer chips. Intel has agreed to provisions that will open the door to renewed competition and prevent Intel from suppressing competition in the future. The settlement goes beyond the terms applied to Intel in previous actions against the company and will help restore competition that was lost as a result of Intel’s alleged past anticompetitive tactics. At the same time, the settlement will leave the company room to innovate and offer competitive pricing.

The President met with high-level officials from thirty-two African countries, the African Union, and other regional organizations as part of the ninth annual AGOA Trade and Economic Cooperation Forum.

The Treasury Department announces a set of designations targeting the Government of Iran's support for terrorism and terrorist organizations, including Hizballah, Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command (PFLP-GC) and the Taliban, pursuant to Executive Order 13224. All transactions involving the designees and any U.S. person are prohibited, and any assets the designees may have under U.S. jurisdiction are frozen. Treasury also identified 21 entities in Iran's banking, insurance and investment, mining, and engineering industries determined to be owned or controlled by the Government of Iran, with which transactions are prohibited under the Iranian Transactions Regulations, in a press release available here.
