The Border Trade Alliance requested a meeting with Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas to discuss the "quickly deteriorating situation at the Texas-Mexico border," according to a BTA letter dated Dec. 29. The business group called the Texas Department of Public Safety’s inspections of commercial vehicles entering the state from Mexico "duplicative and costly" due to CBP being assigned to the same task.

CBP has released its Dec. 27 Customs Bulletin (Vol. 57, No. 48), which includes the following ruling action:
CBP found that two sets of documents didn't establish proof of exportation for drawback purposes, in a ruling it recently released. The agency said one of the documents provided by a customs broker failed to establish the identity of the exporter and both sets failed to prove the fact of exportation.
CBP in November identified 331 shipments valued at more than $125 million for further examination based on the suspected use of forced labor, including goods subject to the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act and withhold release orders, the agency said in its most recent operational statistics update. The value of those shipments is down from October, when CBP identified 504 shipments worth more than $199 million (see 2311140053). Also in November, CBP seized 1,607 shipments that contained counterfeit goods valued at more than $118 million if the items had been genuine, the agency said.
Adi Chemtech evaded an antidumping duty order on xanthan gum from China, CBP said in the final determination of an Enforce and Protect Act investigation. The agency said it found substantial evidence that the importers had transshipped Chinese-origin xanthan gum through India, necessitating the imposition of interim measures.
The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is amending entry requirements for the importation of certain plants from Canada to prevent the introduction of box tree moth (Cydalima perspectalis), the agency said in a Dec. 21 bulletin. APHIS said the moth was detected in Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
