El Salvador Sanctions Bill Becomes Bicameral
Rep. Jim McGovern, D-Mass., on Dec. 18 introduced a companion to a Senate bill that would impose property-blocking sanctions on Salvadoran officials for alleged human rights abuses, including imprisoning U.S. residents deported by the Trump administration without due process.

The El Salvador Accountability Act, which is co-sponsored by Reps. Nydia Velazquez, D-N.Y., and Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, was referred to the House Foreign Affairs, Judiciary and Financial Services committees.
Sens. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., Tim Kaine, D-Va., and Alex Padilla, D-Calif., introduced the Senate version in June (see 2506160002).
