OFAC Sanctions Family Members of Venezuelan Leader Maduro's Wife

The Office of Foreign Assets Control last week sanctioned five adult family members of Carlos Erik Malpica Flores, a nephew of the wife of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro.

OFAC said Malpica Flores has "leveraged his family connections" to sustain his "transnational financial operations" and repeatedly has been linked to corruption at Venezuela’s state-run oil company Petroleos de Venezuela. The designations target Eloisa Flores de Malpica, Carlos Evelio Malpica Torrealba, Iriamni Malpica Flores, Damaris del Carmen Hurtado Perez and Erica Patricia Malpica Hurtado.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the family members are "propping up Nicolas Maduro’s rogue narco-state."
