Lawmaker Urges House Speaker to Hold Vote on Russia Sanctions, Tariffs
Rep. Michael Turner, R-Ohio, who recently led a bipartisan congressional delegation to Ukraine, Poland and Germany, called on House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., on Sept. 24 to schedule a House floor vote on the proposed Sanctioning Russia Act, which would impose additional sanctions on Russia and new tariffs on countries that buy its oil and gas.

With Russia showing "no interest" in ending its war against Ukraine, the bill would give President Donald Trump “the tools he needs” to pressure Moscow to seek peace, Turner wrote in a letter to Johnson. Johnson’s office had no immediate comment.
Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., and Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., introduced the legislation in April (see 2504020003). The bill enjoys broad bipartisan support, but congressional leaders have held off on advancing the measure to allow Trump to pursue a diplomatic solution.
