Schumer Opposes Allowing Nvidia to Sell H20 Chips to China

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., criticized the Trump administration July 21 for removing restrictions on the sale of Nvidia’s advanced H20 computing chips to China, saying the move will help Beijing catch up to and even surpass the U.S. on AI.

"The chips are vital in the race to dominate AI," Schumer said in a Senate floor speech. "Every chip [President] Donald Trump allows Nvidia to sell to Chinese competitors is one more boost to Beijing in the race for AI dominance."

The administration has defended its decision, saying Chinese manufacturers already produce an equivalent chip, so continuing to restrict the H20 would only hurt Nvidia (see 2507150013).
