Swedish PM Raises Issue of AI Act Pause With Other EU Governments

Swedish Prime Minister and Moderate Party Leader Ulf Kristersson raised the issue of pausing the implementation of the EU AI Act at last week's European Council meeting in Brussels, his office told us Monday (see 2506250003).

Conclusions from the meeting omit mentioning the discussion, "but since he brought it up during the meeting it increases the chance that it might come up in future meetings -- and also means that the [European Commission] has heard Sweden's position," a Kristersson spokesperson emailed.

The EC plays an important role in the future work of implementing the measure, he noted.
