Lawmakers Renew Bill to Sanction Gaza Terrorist Group
A bipartisan group of six House members led by Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., reintroduced a bill on March 25 that would sanction the Gaza-based Popular Resistance Committees, which participated in the Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel.

The legislation, meanwhile, was introduced in the Senate for the first time by Sens. Pete Ricketts, R-Neb., and Adam Schiff, D-Calif.
The bill would place financial asset-blocking sanctions on the Popular Resistance Committees, preventing the group and its members from accessing the U.S. financial system. It would also designate the Popular Resistance Committees as a specially designated global terrorist organization, creating criminal and civil penalties for anyone providing support to the group.
The Accountability for Terrorist Perpetrators of October 7th Act was referred to the House Foreign Affairs and Judiciary committees and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. House Foreign Affairs approved the bill in the last Congress (see 2407100058).
