Senate Confirms Jamieson Greer as New USTR
Jamieson Greer, the former chief of staff to the U.S. trade representative during the first Trump administration, was confirmed by the Senate on Feb. 26, with a 56-43 vote. Five Democrats supported him, including both Michigan senators and Sens. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island and John Hickenlooper of Colorado. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., voted no.

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative has been instructed to review all unfair trade practices, to suggest revisions to existing free trade agreements, to review compliance with the phase one China trade deal, to consider additional Section 301 tariffs on China, all with a deadline of April 1.
It's also partnering with the Commerce Department on a report due April 1 on trade deficits and on reciprocal trade (see 2502130030 and 2501200002), and to make recommendations to Congress on permanent normal trade relations with China.
The USTR also will lead USMCA renegotations under the sunset review.
