Senators Propose Sanctions Against Georgian Officials

A bipartisan group of six senators introduced a bill last week that would sanction Georgian officials for passing “foreign agents” legislation that cracks down on civil society organizations and independent media outlets.

The group includes Sens. Ben Cardin, D-Md., and Jim Risch, R-Idaho, the chairman and ranking member, respectively, of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Sens. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H.; Pete Ricketts, R-Neb.; Chris Coons, D-Del.; and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.
