Canada Seeking Feedback on Possible Aluminum Import Requirements
Canada on May 21 officially launched a public comment period as it considers potential new requirements under its Aluminum Import Monitoring Program. The country said it's considering aligning its aluminum import rules with its country of melt and pour information requirements for steel imports, which would “support supply chain transparency and help obtain a more comprehensive picture of the origins of imported aluminum goods.”

New rules could require aluminum imports to include information on their country of smelt and cast “as a condition of using General Import Permit No. 83,” Canada said. “These consultations will help ensure that we have the feedback necessary to proceed in a way that adheres to the principles of import data transparency and serves industry needs,” said Mary Ng, Canada's trade minister.
Canada said it’s seeking feedback from aluminum producers, manufacturers, processors, distributors, retailers, importers, industry associations, labor unions and others. The comment period will close June 28.
