Finance Chair, Top Dem on Ways and Means Ask for True FTA With Kenya
The top Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee and Senate Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden, D-Ore., asked the U.S. trade representative to upgrade its trade negotiations with Kenya so that it's working toward a goal of a comprehensive trade agreement.

They said import barriers for Kenyan exports are largely gone since Kenya is a participant in the African Growth and Opportunity Act benefits program, and negotiating a comprehensive trade agreement would give U.S. exports the same benefits. They noted that Kenya would welcome a more ambitious agreement.
"An enforceable and comprehensive trade agreement with Kenya will help to create a standard for engagement with African nations moving forward,” wrote Wyden and Rep. Richard Neal, D-Mass.
"Trade agreements, when done right, can be a powerful driver for good-paying, quality jobs that open new markets and create more customers for American small businesses, manufacturers, farmers, and service providers, while raising the bar on human rights, labor standards, and environmental protections around the world and leveling the playing field for American workers."
