OFAC Alerts Users About Error Message With New Sanctions List Service
The Office of Foreign Assets Control issued a technical notice to users of its new Sanctions List Service (see 2405060043) of a possible error involving old URLs of the agency’s sanctions data files. OFAC said it has received reports that “users with automated processes designed to download sanctions data files at” certain old URLs are receiving "403 errors" when trying to access the SLS hosted files.

“Internal testing conducted by OFAC found that the new SLS host requires all requests to have a ‘User-Agent’ entry in the request's header (e.g. identifies the request as coming from ... Chrome, Mozilla, etc.),” OFAC said last week. “Applications written in .NET (and potentially other languages), do not specify a User-Agent by default. Therefore, users will need to explicitly add the User-Agent value to their HTTP request headers to avoid receiving this 403 error.”
