DDTC Trying to 'Push Through' Advisory Opinions, Official Says

The State Department’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls is looking to speed up its processing of advisory opinion requests, a government official said during the Bureau of Industry and Security's annual conference last week.

The person said the agency just completed two late last month and is checking to see how it can more quickly issue the opinions, which DDTC can issue in response to a request from a company seeking guidance about the International Traffic in Arms Regulations. “I will assure you that we're trying to do whatever we can to push these through the systems in as timely a manner as possible,” the official said.
