Non-EU Countries Align With EU Sanctions on Iran, Chemical Weapons Proliferation

A group of European countries not in the EU aligned with two sanctions moves from the EU on Iran and one under the bloc's regime against the proliferation and use of chemical weapons, the European Council announced Oct. 26.

Earlier this month, the council updated one entry under the Iran sanctions list and amended the list of entities subject to the restrictions. The countries of North Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania, Ukraine, Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway also imposed the decision.

On Oct. 9, the council extended the sanctions regime targeting the proliferation of chemical weapons for another year, until Oct. 16, 2024. The countries of North Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania, Ukraine, Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway also imposed the decision.
