ITC Opens Section 337 Investigation on Smart Ceiling Fans

The International Trade Commission began a formal Section 337 investigation on imported smart ceiling fans and components (ITC Inv. No. 337-TA-1374), it said in a Federal Register notice.

The notice followed a September complaint by New York-based WAC Lighting, which alleged that American importers, Minka Lighting and VCC, infringed on three patents covering wireless controlled ceiling fans and fan-cloud communication by importing infringing smart ceiling fans, components, electrical boards with circuitry enabling smart features, and other associated systems and software.

WAC asked the commission for a permanent limited exclusion order and cease and desist orders.
