WTO Members Make Progress on e-Commerce Talks
World Trade Organization members participating in the e-commerce negotiations concluded a series of meetings Sept. 29, making progress in the areas of privacy, information and communication technology products, and telecommunications services, the WTO announced. Members established a small group for text-based talks on development issues.

Two more rounds of e-commerce meetings will be held before the end of the year, the WTO said. Australia's Deputy Permanent Representative Jeremy Green said the revised consolidated text issued by the negotiations' co-covenors over the summer has been reduced by 30%. A package may be agreed upon that includes 12 already-negotiated articles, "plus the current work streams on data, privacy, source code, telecommunications, cryptography and development," Green said.
