US Ambassador to UK Suggests Forging Smaller Deals Rather Than FTA
Jane Hartley, U.S. ambassador to the U.K., this week said the U.S. could do more "smaller" things to develop the trade relationship with the U.K. rather than tackle a broader free trade agreement. The "time frame of the political calendar," more so in the U.S. than across the pond, and broader challenges, both policy-wise and temporally, may restrict the development of a larger deal, she said during an interview with Bloomberg TV.

"But I do think there are many things, and there have been many meetings that have been positive, especially on small business, professional accreditation, things like that," Hartley said. "Especially given the strength of the service sector here, I think there's a lot we could do."
Hartley also touted the investment climate between the two nations. She said factors including "rule of law," entrepreneurial spirit and great educational institutes make Britain a great long-term investment option.
