ITC to Consider Limited Exclusion Order on Various Wireless Electronics

Comments are due to the International Trade Commission by July 5 regarding a potential Section 337 investigation on imported wireless electronics devices (ITC Inv. No. 337-TA-3684), it said in a Federal Register notice.

A June 21 complaint by Bell Northern Research (BNR) named NXP Semiconductors, Laird Connectivity, Qualcomm Technologies, MediaTek and ASUSTek Computer as respondents and requested a limited exclusion order and cease and desist orders. BNR said the respondents import various wireless devices that infringe on three of BNR's patents, which cover ways for mobile terminals to operate in multiple input multiple output wireless networks, means of compatibility with legacy devices with different standards, and improvements in wireless communication systems transmitting feedback.

The commission is interested in comments that explain how the items are used in the U.S., identify public health or welfare concerns related to the requested orders, identify like products which could potentially replace the subject items if they were to be excluded, show whether the complainant has the capacity to replace the volume potentially subject to an exclusion order, and explain how the requested remedial orders would affect U.S. consumers.
