CBP Granted 1 Modification of WRO Out of 7 Requests in FY 2022, Report Says

CBP identified 3,605 shipments valued at $816.5 million for "forced labor concerns" in FY 2022, including "1,592 shipments valued at nearly $500 million" identified under the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA), the agency said in its Trade and Travel Report for the fiscal year. The report, which was released on June 1, CBP enforced 54 active withhold release orders and nine active findings, which includes six withhold resale orders and two new findings issued this year, the agency said

In addition, CBP also had a large number of petitions filed by importers seeking modification or revocation of WROs. Seven foreign producers filed petitions to revoke or modify their WRO, with one company able to modify their WRO after "the company demonstrated remediation of all five of the 11 International Labour Organization’s indicators of forced labor," CBP said. "This modification occurred just one month after CBP issued the withhold release order, representing swift and successful collaboration between civil society, the producer and CBP," the agency said.
