Final Rule on Food Traceability Will Come Out Soon
FDA said its final rule on record-keeping for high-risk foods has been sent to the Office of the Federal Register, and should be published within a week or two, in an email Nov. 7.

The rule was first proposed in 2020, and is expected to cover soft and semi-soft cheeses, chicken eggs, nut butters, cucumbers, fresh herbs, leafy greens, melons, peppers, sprouts, tomatoes, mango tree fruits, fresh cut fruits and vegetables, finfish, crustaceans, oysters, clams and mussels, and ready-to-eat deli salads.
Any business that "holds" food on the list will be required to retain key data elements, and most importers would be covered by that, FDA has said (see 2009220041).
