The new action levels would replace the current level of 50 ppb described in FDA’s guidance on juice hazard analysis and critical control point (HACCP) hazards and controls. “Though not binding, these action levels are intended to encourage manufacturers to maintain lead levels in juices below the action levels, thus reducing risks associated with dietary lead exposures,” FDA said. “When this draft guidance is finalized, we intend to update the Juice HACCP Guidance … to reflect the new action levels.” Comments are due June 28, the FDA said.
