Democrats Push for House Action on Supply Chain, Port Congestion Bills
More than 20 Democrats this week urged House leadership to consider a range of bills that they said can help ease supply chain backlogs and port issues. In a Dec. 2 letter, the lawmakers said Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., should “turn the House’s attention” to those bills as the holiday season approaches “to specifically address the supply chain and resulting higher prices experienced by families across the country.”

Although the letter didn’t mention any specific bills, Republicans and Democrats -- including the White House -- have supported the Ocean Shipping Reform Act (see 2111190062 and 2111180057), which could hold carriers accountable for unfair port fees and declined export bookings (see 2108100011). Another bipartisan bill, the Developing Responsible Individuals for a Vibrant Economy Act, would address the driver shortage in the trucking and logistics industry.
“We respectfully ask that the House swiftly considers the numerous bills written by our House colleagues that will support domestic manufacturing, agricultural exports, and provide additional solutions to our supply chain crisis,” said the letter, signed by Reps. Cindy Axne of Iowa, Susie Lee of Nevada, Susan Wild of Pennsylvania and others.
