  • Implementation of the United Kingdom Trade Continuity Remission Order for 2021. The Canada Border Services Agency issued Customs Notice 20-39, which gives notice that the United Kingdom Trade Continuity Remission Order provides the tariff benefits of the Canada-United Kingdom Trade Continuity Agreement (CUKTCA) as if it were in force as of Jan. 1, 2021. Effective Jan. 1, importers of qualifying goods may cite the United Kingdom Trade Continuity Remission Order, 2021 #20-1135, in order to benefit from the remission of duties. Importers are responsible for obtaining documentation in support of a claim for remission under the order. This remission applies to goods imported on or after Jan. 1, 2021, until the day on which the CUKTCA enters into force.
  • CITT initiates preliminary injury inquiry for certain upholstered domestic seating from China and Vietnam. The Canadian International Trade Tribunal initiated a preliminary injury into a complaint by Palliser Furniture Upholstery Ltd., of Winnipeg, Manitoba, that it has suffered injury as a result of the dumping and subsidizing of certain upholstered domestic seating originating in or exported from China and Vietnam. CITT will determine by Feb. 19, 2021, whether there is a reasonable indication the alleged dumping and subsidizing have caused injury or retardation or are threatening to cause injury. If yes, the Canada Border Services Agency will continue its current investigations and, by March 22, 2021, will make its preliminary determinations.
