Canadian Government Notices as of Dec. 21

The government of Canada issued the following trade-related notices as of Dec. 21 (some may also be given separate headlines):

  • CBSA issues notice of investigations of certain grinding media from India. The Canada Border Services Agency initiated investigations Dec. 17 under the Special Import Measures Act with respect to the alleged injurious dumping and subsidizing of certain grinding media from India. Magotteaux Limitee, of Magog, Quebec, filed the underlying complaint.
  • CITT initiates preliminary injury inquiry regarding certain grinding media from India. The Canadian International Trade Tribunal on Dec. 18 initiated a preliminary injury inquiry into a complaint by Magotteaux Limitee, of Magog, Quebec, that it has suffered injury as a result of the dumping and subsidizing of certain grinding media originating in or exported from India. The tribunal will determine on Feb. 15, 2021, if there is a reasonable indication that the dumping and subsidizing have caused injury or retardation of the domestic industry, or are threatening to cause injury. If the finding is yes, the Canada Border Services Agency will continue its investigations and by March 17, 2021, make preliminary determinations.
  • CCOFTA Rules of Origin. The Canada Border Services Agency on Dec. 16 notified that it updated Memorandum D11-5-9 to describe the Canada-Colombia Free Trade Agreement (CCOFTA) Rules of Origin and to provide updated links to the agreement's text. None of the changes affects or alters any of the existing policies or procedures.
  • CUSMA textile/apparel TPL utilization. The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade updated the 2020 the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement textile and apparel tariff preference level utilization rate for imports and exports. CUSMA is known as USMCA in the U.S.
  • Product Recalls: Can-Am Off-Road Screw Jack manufactured in Canada recalled, for injury hazard; Payot Paris Sunny Magic Mousse a Bronzer manufactured in France recalled, for lacking required hazard labeling.
