  • Canada to challenge U.S. duties on Canadian softwood lumber. The Canadian government requested a panel review under Chapter 10 of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement regarding U.S. countervailing duties on imports of Canadian softwood lumber. This is in response to the Nov. 24, 2020, U.S. Department of Commerce imposing a 7.42% countervailing duty rate for most Canadian producers of softwood lumber. “Canada firmly believes that any duties imposed on Canadian exports of softwood lumber to the United States are unwarranted and unfair,” Trade Minister Mary Ng said.
  • CITT continues order regarding oil country tubular goods from China. The Canadian International Trade Tribunal advised Dec. 10 it continued its order made on March 2, 2015, in Expiry Review No. RR-2014-003, continuing, without amendment its finding made on March 23, 2010, in Inquiry No. NQ-2009-004, concerning the dumping and subsidizing of oil country tubular goods from China. CITT found that letting the order expire was likely to result in injury. The Canada Border Services Agency thus will continue to impose AD and CV duties on the products.
  • Importation of COVID-19 vaccines and drugs. The Canada Border Services Agency on Dec. 10 issued Customs Notice 20-36, which provides importers and carriers with guidance on importing COVID-19 drugs, including vaccines, covered under Canada's Interim Order Respecting the Importation, Sales and Advertising of Drugs for use in relation to COVID-19.
  • Product Recalls: 3M Corner Bead 61 Adhesive manufactured in the U.S. recalled, for flammability hazard; Mastercraft 5 Gallon Air Compressor manufactured in the U.S. recalled, for injury hazard; Scentsy Luminary Jack and Bless This Home wax warmers manufactured in China recalled, for fire hazard.
