  • Updated information on Kimberly Process for export, import of rough diamonds. The Canada Border Services Agency on Aug. 19 updated Memorandum D19-6-4 to remove the fax number from the contact information and to clarify language. The memorandum outlines and explains legislation, regulations and general guidelines for exporting and importing rough diamonds. CBSA said the purpose of the Kimberly Process Certification Scheme for rough diamond trade “is to prevent the international movement of conflict or 'blood' diamonds that are being used to fund rebel activities in various African countries.” The memorandum, based on a diamond trade law that went into effect Jan. 1, 2003, was last updated in December 2015.
