Chamber Endorses More Spending on Customs Officers, ACE

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is praising the House Appropriations Committee for dedicating $172 million for additional customs officers, agricultural specialists and support personnel to support trade, and recommends more money for ACE and the International Trade Data System single window.

The Chamber, in a July 14 letter, said that more spending on single window automation “will help decrease the transaction cost of trade, open trade to small- and medium-sized businesses, and improve targeting capabilities for government.”

It also asked the committee to be ready to make up for a shortfall in fees collected at ports of entry due to the COVID-19 pandemic mitigation measures' effect on travel. “We are concerned that this funding shortfall will result in service disruptions at ports of entry, especially as we move into the fall and the holiday season,” the Chamber said.
