UK Issues Guidance for Remote Compliance Checks for Controlled Exports

The United Kingdom’s Department for International Trade issued an April 9 guidance on remote compliance checks during the COVID-19 pandemic, detailing what steps companies should take to complete the checks, access their export records and more.

Companies still exporting controlled items will be notified of their remote compliance check four to six weeks beforehand and should fill out several required forms and documents before the check, DIT said. This includes a “pre-visit questionnaire” and a list of exports made under licenses for the preceding two years. In addition, the compliance officer will provide companies with information about the licensable exports they will be inspecting, DIT said. The officer will provide that information “no later than midday on the day before the check.”

Companies experiencing issues obtaining “original consignee undertakings” and other documents should contact their compliance officers, who “will advise you,” the agency said. Companies that have closed due to the pandemic mitigation efforts should email their compliance officers “as soon as possible.”
