Bipartisan Bill Would Create National Supply Chain Security Center

The bill, S. 2316, introduced July 30, would require the director of National Intelligence, the Defense Department and other relevant agencies to develop a plan to increase supply chain intelligence within 180 days. It would establish a National Supply Chain Intelligence Center within the Office of the Director of National Intelligence to collect supply chain threat information and disseminate it to agencies with the authority to intervene. And it would fund federal supply chain enhancements.

The senators are concerned about China supplying software or hardware with back door access after it's installed, or selling hardware with faulty components. "We need a national strategy to unify efforts across the government to protect our supply chain and our national security,” Warner said.
