Canadian Government Notices as of Oct. 15
The government of Canada recently issued the following trade-related notices as of Oct. 15 (some may also be given separate headlines):

- Provisional safeguard measures imposed on certain steel goods imports. The Canada Border Services Agency on Oct. 11 issued Customs Notice 18-17, which provides information on the implementation of the Order Imposing a Surtax on the Importation of Certain Steel Goods, registered Oct. 11, 2018, and coming into force on Oct. 25, 2018. The order applies to certain steel goods imported from all countries except the U.S., Chile, Israel or another Agreement on the Global System of Trade Preferences among Developing Countries (GSPT) beneficiary; in the case of Mexico, the order only applies to energy tubular products and wire rod; in the case of goods from developing countries that are beneficiaries of the General Preferential Tariff, it does not apply, with one exception: concrete reinforcing bar originating in and imported from Vietnam are not exempt.
- CBSA opens expanded Emerson border crossing. The Canada Border Services Agency on Oct. 12 marked completion of the $19 million expansion of the Emerson border crossing in Manitoba. The project added a new and larger commercial warehouse for truck examinations as well as a dedicated bus examination bay and lobby area through renovations to an existing building. Started in May 2017, the expansion project aimed to improve the flow of goods and people between Canada and the United States.
