  • Laurentides International regional export promotion group gets government funds. Canada announced Oct. 11 it is contributing $411,000 to support export promotion activities of Laurentides International over the next three years in the Quebec region. Small and medium-sized enterprises that are interested in exporting or involved in an export project can receive advice and support in order to succeed in international markets.
  • Notice to Importers regarding provisional safeguards for certain steel goods. Global Affairs Canada issued Oct. 11 a notice to importers informing them of the procedures governing the administration of provisional safeguards, in the form of tariff rate quotas, for certain steel goods that are listed in item 82 on the Import Control List. The TRQs will be administered by way of shipment-specific import permits. The application period for shipment-specific import permits will open on Oct. 25, 2018. The notice applies to steel goods imported from all countries other than those originating in and imported from: the United States, Chile, Mexico, Israel or another Inter-American Convention Against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives, and Other Related Materials (CIFTA) beneficiary, and any country benefiting from the General Preferential Tariff, other than concrete reinforcing bar originating in and imported from Vietnam.
  • Product Recalls: Cooper Lighting LLC recalls All-Pro and Defiant solar/battery powered light fixtures manufactured in China, for fire hazard; Lester Electrical recalls Links Series golf cart chargers manufactured in the United States, for fire and burn hazards; BSN SPORTS recalls rubber critter toys manufactured in China, for unsafe lead levels; Spiraledge Inc. recalls backless yoga chairs manufactured in China, for fall and injury hazards.
