Canadian Government Notices as of July 6

The government of Canada recently issued the following trade-related notices as of July 6 (some may also be given separate headlines):

  • Time frames for release of commercial goods. The Canada Border Services Agency issued Customs Notice 18-09, which informs importers and customs brokers of an "upcoming change in policy, regarding the earliest time frames in which goods may be released." The July 5 notice says that when "changes to the house bill process (Date TBD)" are implemented, "goods imported through the commercial process will only be eligible for release upon arrival of the goods at final destination (i.e. arrival at the location where the importer is seeking release)."
  • CFIA suspends registration of Ocean Fresh Mussel Growers Ltd. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has suspended the registration of Ocean Fresh Mussel Growers Ltd., in Newfoundland and Labrador province, effective June 29, 2018, for not reliably implementing adequate controls for food safety in the facility on a consistent basis, in violation of the Fish Inspection Regulations.
