- Statement on U.S. CV duties on Canadian uncoated groundwood paper. Minister of Foreign Affairs Chrystia Freeland and Minister of Natural Resources Jim Carr issued a joint statement regarding the U.S. Department of Commerce’s preliminary decision in the countervailing duty investigation on imports of Canadian uncoated groundwood paper, expressing Canada’s disappointment in the rates assigned and outlining some of the negative economic impacts that may have on U.S industries such as in the newspaper sector.
- Canada-U.S. trade meetings in Washington. Minister of Foreign Affairs Chrystia Freeland attended meetings Jan. 9 in Washington, where she met with key representatives from the U.S. administration and the Senate to stress the importance of NAFTA as an engine of growth and prosperity for the U.S. and Canada.
- Product Recalls: Skip Hop recalls Tuo convertible high chairs manufactured in China, for fall and injury hazards; Indigo Books & Music Inc. recalls Desert Gold ceramic mugs and bowls manufactured in China, for burn hazard.
