Canadian Government Notices as of Dec. 6

The government of Canada recently issued the following trade-related notices as of Dec. 6 (some may also be given separate headlines):

  • International merchandise trade for October 2017. Statistics Canada reports that Canada’s exports were up 2.7% and imports decreased 1.6% in October. The Canadian merchandise trade deficit with the world totaled $1.5 billion in October, narrowing from a $3.4 billion deficit in September.
  • Korea: Certain carbon and alloy steel line pipe. The Canada Border Services Agency on Dec. 5 made a final determination of dumping with respect to certain carbon and alloy steel line pipe originating in or exported from South Korea.
  • Notice of reinvestigation of certain concrete reinforcing bar. The Canada Border Services Agency initiated on Dec. 4 a reinvestigation to update the normal values and export prices with respect to certain concrete reinforcing bar (rebar) originating in or exported from the China, South Korea and Turkey (Rebar 1), and originating in or exported from Belarus, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Portugal and Spain (Rebar 2), and the amounts of subsidy of certain rebar originating in or exported from China.
  • Tariff classification of safety headgear. The Canada Border Services Agency on Dec. 4 issued Memorandum D10-15-27, which outlines the CBSA’s administrative policy with respect to safety headgear of subheading 6506.10, including football helmets; for firemen; for mountaineering and climbing; industrial safety helmets, and others.
  • Product Recalls: Metabo USA recalls rat tail angle grinders manufactured in Germany, for laceration hazard; NETGEAR, Inc. recalls power adapter for Arlo Pro Cameras manufactured in China, for fire hazard; Ravin Crossbows recalls nocks used with Ravin Crossbows manufactured in the U.S., for laceration hazard; Jackfield - Distribution Eugene Gagnon Inc. recalls Jackfield polyurethane work boots manufactured in China, for not meeting standards to protect from foot injuries.
