  • Ontario company fined under Food and Drugs Act for false meat labeling. Corporation 1780010, operating as Eastern Meat Solutions Inc. of Etobicoke, Ontario, was fined in September for falsely labeling beef under the Food and Drugs Act, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced this month. The Ontario Court of Justice fined Eastern Meat $200,000 based on a CFIA investigation that determined the company falsely labeled a substantial quantity of meat products, including labeling the following products though they were not: prime rib boneless beef trim; Angus boneless beef trim; and sirloin boneless beef trim. The total market value of the meat at the time of its detention by the CFIA was $613,572.
