Canadian Government Notices as of Oct. 2

The government of Canada recently issued the following trade-related notices as of Oct. 2 (some may also be given separate headlines):

  • CETA: Cheese Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ). Global Affairs Canada advised importers of cheese pursuant to notice provisions in Section 6.2 of the Export and Import Permits (EIPA). Imports of cheese into Canada are subject to import controls under EIPA. Accordingly, an import permit issued by Global Affairs Canada is required for shipments of cheese to enter Canada. The notice will remain in effect until further notice. Import permits for shipments of cheese destined to the Canadian market are issued to allocation holders under the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) TRQ for cheeses of all types.
  • Certain carbon steel welded pipe: Conclusion of review of final determination. The Canada Border Services Agency has issued a final determination of dumping for certain carbon steel welded pipe originating in or exported from Taiwan, with the following amendments: the CBSA terminated the dumping investigation regarding certain carbon steel welded pipe exported to Canada from Taiwan by Chung Hung Steel Corporation and Shin Yang Steel Co. Ltd.; and revised the margins of dumping for subject goods originating in or exported from Taiwan by “all other exporters.”
  • Windsor-Detroit Tunnel to close for 10 days. The Windsor-Detroit Tunnel will be closed for renovations beginning at 8 p.m. on Oct. 20 and will reopen at 5:30 a.m. Oct. 30.
  • Product Recalls: Kao USA Inc. recalls various hair care aerosol cosmetic products manufactured in Austria and Germany, for improper labeling that could lead to serious injury.
