Canadian Government Notices as of Aug. 30

- Canada working to support flower exports for growers. Minister of Agriculture Lawrence MacAulay announced that the Canadian government is providing $393,070 to Flower Canada Growers (FCG) to develop standardized training protocols for flower growers on Canada’s new export certification program for greenhouse-grown plants. The investment is made through the Government of Canada’s Growing Forward 2, AgriMarketing Program, a five-year, $341 million initiative, and is aimed at exports to the United States.
- First Free Trade Zone Center created in Quebec. The Canadian government was to announce Aug. 30 the creation of the first Free Trade Zone Center in Quebec.
- China: Certain steel piling pipe. The Canada Border Services Agency announced Aug. 29 that it has initiated an expiry review investigation to determine whether the expiration of the Canadian International Trade Tribunal finding in 2012 (CITT initiated the expiry review on Aug. 28) will result in the continuation or resumption of dumping and/or subsidizing for certain steel piling pipe originating in or exported from China.
- Product Recalls: Mountain Equipment Co-op recalls Aquanot Rolltop 20L Pannier manufactured in the Philippines, for injury and fall hazards.
