  • Solid progress in talks on Australia’s accession to the Government Procurement Agreement. Work to complete Australia’s accession to the WTO Government Procurement Agreement (GPA) has intensified and is nearing final stages. The accessions of the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan to the Agreement are advancing steadily as well, informal discussions in the Committee on Government Procurement on June 21 have confirmed. The accession negotiations of Russia and Macedonia kicked off at the meeting (here).
  • WTO opens NGO accreditation for Buenos Aires Ministerial Conference. The WTO has opened the accreditation process for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) wishing to attend the Eleventh Ministerial Conference, which will be held in Buenos Aires Dec. 10 to 13 (here).
  • Canada donates CAD 200,000 to support food safety, animal/plant health standards and trade. Canada is contributing CAD 200,000 to the Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF) in 2017 to help developing countries comply with international food safety, animal and plant health standards and therefore access agricultural markets more easily. The donation will help developing and least-developed countries improve their sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) capacity (here).
  • Germany donates EUR 1 million to help developing countries participate in trade talks. The government of Germany is contributing EUR 1 million to help developing and least-developed countries (LDCs) enhance their trade negotiating skills. WTO Deputy Director-General Yonov Frederick Agah met with Germany’s Alternate Ambassador to the WTO, Walter Werner, on June 20 to mark Germany’s donation to the WTO’s Doha Development Agenda Global Trust Fund (here).
  • Course on priority issues for least-developed countries under way at WTO. Twenty-two government officials from least-developed countries (LDCs) in Africa, Asia and the Pacific are taking part in a course entitled “Priority Issues for LDCs in the Multilateral Trading System” at the WTO June 19 to 23 (here).
