  • CBSA initiates Section 20 inquiry for certain silicon metal. The Canada Border Services Agency in February 2017 initiated a Section 20 inquiry respecting the alleged injurious dumping of certain silicon metal originating in or exported from Brazil, Kazakhstan, Laos, Malaysia, Norway, Russia and Thailand, and the alleged injurious subsidizing of certain silicon metal originating in or exported from Brazil, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Norway and Thailand. Information shows that the Government of Kazakhstan plays a significant role in the silicon metal sector in Kazakhstan, therefore the Government of Kazakhstan and all known producers of silicon metal producers in Kazakhstan will now be given the opportunity to provide information regarding the nature and extent of government involvement in exports and in determining pricing with respect to the silicon metal sector (here).
  • NAFTA textile/apparel TPL utilization. The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade updated the 2017 NAFTA textile and apparel tariff preference level utilization rate for imports (here) and exports (here).
  • Product Recalls: Bradshaw Canada Holdings Inc. recalls Bialetti coffee presses manufactured in China (here), for laceration hazard; Wing Enterprises Inc. recalls Little Giants ladders manufactured in China (here), for fall hazard; VanMoof recalls VanMoof M3 S and B series bicycles manufactured in China, to replace front fender bolt after crash hazard identified (here).
